It's finally spring, which means Easter is just around the corner! But this fun-filled holiday isn't just about cute bunnies and chocolate treats; it's a historically rich tradition with plenty of other favours, including flowers. Experienced florists will tell you that these Easter blooms have significance that can add depth to any bouquet or arrangement.
Today, your local florists from Forest of Flowers will go through the significance of Easter lilies and other seasonal blooms. This way, you can choose the blooms best suited to adorn your Easter table this year!
Everyone loves Easter lilies, and they're a top pick for floral arrangements during the spring season. The Easter lily is known for being a symbol of resurrection, renewal, and hope. This is particularly meaningful due to the religious undertones of the Easter holiday. Christian beliefs state that when Jesus Christ was crucified, he was buried on Good Friday, and rose from the dead on the third day - which is Easter Sunday as we know it. This event is hailed as the fulfillment of the prophecy of God's plan for salvation.
Even if you're not religious, the symbolism of hope and renewal is significant to everyone. When the snow melts away and new life blooms in the form of flowers, grass, and trees, we all can look forward to better times and warmer weather. The lily, a beautiful trumpet-shaped flower, comes in varying shades of white, pink, yellow, and orange.
If you want a flower that offers feelings of purity, hope, and new beginnings, the lily is an elegant option for both bouquets and arrangements. Local florists can incorporate these stunning blooms into something that will truly spark joy and growth, regardless of how you choose to celebrate the day.
Tulips are some of the most popular choices for Easter floral arrangements, as they are not only sweet-smelling and colourful, but they symbolize rebirth and the return of springtime. They’re delicate but resilient flowers that truly highlight the regenerative qualities of the tulip, which awaits the end of winter to bloom again in warmer times.
Tulips, with their varying shades of pink, red, purple, orange, yellow, white, and so on, add a true burst of vitality and fragrance to any Easter bouquet or arrangement. These bell-shaped blooms are the perfect choice for someone trying to truly capture the essence of rebirth and springtime.
Not only this, they are incredibly versatile flowers and can be included as a standalone flower in a bundle of blooms or even as a delicate accent in a sprawling arrangement. If you like delicate and soft hues, you can even take a more pastel approach to truly capture the colours of the Easter season.
Daffodils and hyacinths are very popular Easter flowers because they symbolize hope, joy, and the beginning of new and better things. Daffodils, perhaps best known for their cheery yellow petals, indicate that spring is on the way as they thrive in warmer weather.
However, the beautiful clustering petals of the fragrant hyacinth give off the feeling of opulence and elegance, making them a popular choice in Easter floral arrangements. Hyacinths come in shades of deep purple, hot pink, light pink, white, and even blue. Daffodils are most commonly found in yellow and white with yellow centers, although they have been seen in pink and orange, too, albeit not as common.
This combination of blooms truly captures the feelings of hope and joy for the new season, making them an excellent addition to your Easter centerpiece.
While many of these options could be available at your local flower shop, they also might not be. That’s why, when we write these blog posts, we like to offer additional options that match the theme that are likely easier to find. You don’t have to compromise on style with these alternative floral options for your Easter arrangement or bouquet.
Nothing says spring like daises – but gerberas have that little extra oomph. Their large blooms are attention-catching and are available in so many colours you can match them to any theme - including a pastel spring theme. Or maybe you want something a little unique, like a mixture of pinks and greenery? Whatever the theme, there’s so many colours to choose from:

If you feel like a bundle of roses is too much for a spring Easter celebration (although we think roses are perfect for any occasion), you can always pair them with a more subtle flower like a daisy. Nothing screams springtime like a field of white daisies under the warm sunlight of the new season. An experienced florist can craft you a bouquet or arrangement with a mixture of light-coloured roses and white daisies. Here are some good springtime rose colours to pair with white daisies:

OK! Now it’s time to build your perfect Easter get-together. Whether you’re having a springtime brunch or a traditional Easter egg hunt, here are some other Easter symbols and how you can include them into your decor. We may even offer you some food ideas to consider for your celebration, too!
Easter eggs are a fun part of the festive traditions, but did you know they have religious significance? It's been speculated that Easter eggs could be linked to pagan traditions, particularly festivals that celebrate spring. Looking at it from the Christian angle, however, Easter eggs represent Jesus' resurrection. The act of decorating the eggs dates all the way back to the 13th century. You can incorporate these into your decor by using decorated foam eggs on wire and sticking them into your Easter arrangements.
Good ol' Peter Rabbit has some historical significance, too. One theory of the Easter Bunny's origin comes from the pagan festival of Eostre, as the goddess associated with the festival was represented by a rabbit, which signifies fertility. As well, in 18th-century German folklore, the "Easter Hare" (Osterhase), would lay eggs for the children to discover on Easter morning. You can include bunny ear cake/cupcake toppers or incorporate stuffed bunnies as table decor.
Easter follows a period of Lent, which prohibits a lot of indulgences like meat and sweets. Easter morning is the time when those who practice Lent are finally able to have tasty treats like chocolate again. This is why chocolate is a popular choice for Easter candy, and chocolate eggs in particular make great party favours to serve in candy dishes.
Chicks are popular and iconic Easter symbols – just think of the popular marshmallow candies called Peeps. They're a popular symbol because chicks are born by hatching from eggs, thus symbolizing new life and fertility. However, we do NOT recommend you simply adopt baby chicks as decorations – instead, you can build a craft station with yellow pompoms, googly eyes, felt and pipe cleaner to make hand-made chicks for the young ones.
The cross (or crucifix) is a very powerful symbol of Easter. Now, we understand not everyone celebrates Easter as a religious holiday, but it is a common symbol associated with the celebration. Crosses can be incorporated by hanging them on walls or even featuring them in floral arrangements. You can also provide rosaries as party favours to take home.
