The Meaning of Orchids

Our fresh, white and deep purple hues are just a few of the vivid colours available for this exquisite, delicate bloom. Choose between the Charming Purple Phalaenopsis or the Pure White Phalaenopsis. The charming purple colour is often associated with nobility, royalty and wealth - making it a perfect gift for the king or queen in your life. On the other hand, white represents purity and can convey freshness or simplicity. If you are looking to freshen up a room or keep it simple, the Pure White colour is perfect for you!

The Beauty of Orchids

There are over 25,000 species of orchids, making them one of the largest and most diverse plant families. A few of the common orchid species (Orchidaceae) include the Phalaenopsis, Dendrobium, Epidendrum, Cycnoches, Masdevallia and Catasetum. Interestingly, all Orchid flowers share two common characteristics. Every flower of an orchid has bilateral symmetry, as well as upward-facing petals. This means that if you cut an orchid flower down the middle, they would be identical to one another.

Orchids are breathtaking flowers because of the variety of shapes, sizes and colours that exist. The orchid flower can range from the size of an average human hand to the size of a nickel. In addition to this, the orchid flower can exhibit a variety of colours. It’s very popular to buy white orchids, but there are a plethora of colours like Blue, Red, Purple, Pink and Orange that an orchid flower can bloom into. ‘Lady of the Night’ and ‘Volcano Queen’ are great examples of sweet-smelling orchids, which can be perfect for inside your home or a bright, fragrant addition to your garden.

Orchid Care Tips

Are orchids hard to care for after you’ve bought them? Orchids are known for being low-maintenance houseplants! Here are some general tips we put together to ensure your orchids stay as beautiful as they were the day you got them:

  • Avoid overwatering your orchid - if you think it needs water, wait one more day
  • Orchids need sun... but shouldn’t be too hot. Try to get your orchids in front of some South-East facing windows
  • Use pots that allow the orchid to breathe
  • Orchids love humidity, but not wet feet. Make sure they can drain!
  • Orchids are perennial which means they will bloom every spring and die in the fall/winter (Be Patient! Don’t throw it out!)
